- Both TI and Motorola have DSPs that are more powerful than the 56k series.
- The 56001 in the Falcon is a very old chip.

-
- When people are talking about 'number of operations per cycle' of DSP chips,
- they don't mean instructions per cycle (most DSPs I've read about only do one),
- but rather split them down into their basic components.
-
- The M68k instruction MOVE.L (A1)+,(A2)+ could be described as doing as much
- as six 'operations': one load, one store, two address register updates,
- one instruction fetch and one PC update.
- The first four of those are definitely counted when it comes to DSPs.
-
- IIRC Motorola claims 6 operations per instruction cycle for the 56k, but
- then one instruction cycle is two clock cycles, which may well be the case
- with the TI chip as well.

-
- Yes, isn't TI the producer of that monster with multiple DSPs and multiple
- RISC processors on one chip, capable of executing something like 10^9
- instructions/second?
-

- Yes, but they probably wanted a floating point chip.

-
- But how would they connect it?
- It seems that for many things the bus is the bottleneck even with the
- relatively slow DSP we have now.

-
- Is there such a bus to use on the AB040?
-
- > And you are sure it was for the falcon?
-
- Well, I think that would be a bit strange as well.
- DSP cards are not even a very large market on the PC.
